Edit: Lilibet will be staying with us for one more season before returning to Browning Park

Crown of Lilibet: "Lilibet"

(The Promise Pretty Boy Wonder X KCS Mirage)

This little firecracker has been a pleasure to own! Lilibet came to us along with her dam, Mirage, to re-introduce the declining dun genetics back into our herd. Lilibet might have missed adding that dun-line on her first foal, but her and Auggie still managed to produce something truly spectacular in Faylin's Crowned in Chrome.

While we always knew our ownership of Lilibet would be temporary, it will still be sad to watch her leave (though no one will know better than Mirage- having never before been separated from her daughter, even whilst co-parenting). But we wish her and Browning Park the best of luck, and many MANY duns!

*Faylin's Liege Lord has arrived!*

Russetwood Romance: "Cookie"

(Rotherwood State Occasion X Eyarth Gigi (Eyarth Celebration))

We must regretfully announce that last November ('21) Cookie lost her battle with COPD. And with her the Welsh world has lost a titan.

Even amongst broodmares Cookie’s love and devotion to her foals was unrivaled. So it is fitting that she got the chance to raise and wean one last foal alongside her best friend, Elana, before her illness decided to make itself known. It’s always so incredibly easy to argue why there wasn't more time, but it is a great comfort to us that Cookie’s last months were spent here doing what she loved best.

We will always remember Cookie following Monty diligently around their field (at every speed), flirting with Auggie (no matter the situation), and “obliviously” sneaking past her stall every night when it was time to get tucked in (where a stern “Cookie...” would send her unapologetically back to her stall- almost as if you couldn’t blame her for trying).

Heaven’s herd is wealthier one more golden pony (in more ways than just color). Rest easy Cookie; you will be sorely missed💛

Sunny

Affectionately referred to as Sunny-Honey or Sunny-Bunny, this outstanding Azteca mare was one for the books. I suppose I'm particularly biased, having been bestowed the rare honor of her affection (Sunny was quite particular about WHO could catch her in a field, but even more selective about who was allowed to touch one of her cherished foals for their first two weeks without incurring her mamma bear wrath). To say she was a favorite would be saying far too little.

Sunny was plagued by a history of colic long before she came to make her home with us. So we knew that one day a colic would eventually be the thing to take her despite our best preparations and precautions. We just never suspected it would happen quite so soon- nor with a foal (Miri) by her side.

Sunny foaled two perfect foals in her time with us: Faylin's Baby Boomer (half-welsh/Azteca) and my own personal horse Miriam "Miri" (Azteca/Akhal-Teke). Sadly we were never told Sunny's registered name, but we will forever be avid admirers of the Azteca breed because of this special lady.

Alpine Acres Cat Ballou: "Kitty"

(Goldhill's Brilliant Disguise X Gayfield's Naughty Girl)

Kitty was one of those dreams snatched away too soon. Blessed with a larger than life personality (matched only by her larger than life step) Kitty was a force in her own right. And though Kitty was only with us a short time she left a larger than life impact here at the farm. Sadly Kitty's second pregnancy resulted in uterine torsion and there was no way to save her or her unborn foal.

Kitty stands as a heartbreaking reminder to us that breeding is never without it's heartaches- no matter how well prepared you believe yourself to be. We will forever miss this one of a kind mare and the futures that never got to be.

Kitty's only surviving foal is:

- Faylin's Revelry

Kella

Kella is a lovely black bay welara with plenty of bone and the easiest attitude you could ever ask for. Kella has recently been retired from our program and can now look forward to enjoying her golden years in peace. One of our original mares, Kella has always been obsessed with motherhood, and our only regret is that she did not foal a filly to stay by her side throughout retirement. Thankfully, she fairs just as well with her many honorary daughters here on the farm.

Kella's foals include:

  • Faylin's Seven Kinds of Smoke: 2016
  • Faylin's Firefly: 2017
  • Faylin's Aye Chihuahua: 2021

Gayfield's Say What?!?

(Sleight of Hand X Gayfield's Word on the Street)

Say What is the pony that started it all. The sire to our first three crops of foals, Say What is the stud that kicked things off, and convinced us to start breeding welsh ponies. He boasts the quintessential welsh head that every breeder strives for along with a larger than life presence.

If we had to fault him on anything it would have to be his single copy of the grey gene 😂, but he more than makes up for that with the roan hidden beneath!
